I get asked all the time: “should my kid practice at home?” or “what should my kid practice at home?”  The answer to that question depends; child’s age, belt rank, just got a new belt or ready to test for the next.  Here’s a general guide.  If you would like more specifics just send me an email.

Beginners: (5-6 minutes at most)

At the beginner level the most important thing to remember is, are they having fun. The best way to get them to practice is by asking the to “show you” what they learned in class today. This works especially well when one parent was able to watch class.

Intermediate and Advanced: (10-15 minutes)

Once a student gets to Green belt, there is so much more for them to review and practice.  Their curriculum is broken down into 4 main area’s; belt rank basics, combinations, self defense and forms.  Practice one or two of these area’s on the days your child does not come to class.

Our YouTube channel has video’s of all the forms and if you click “show more” you’ll see a list of all the curriculum for each belt / form. Here’s the link:

For Everyone:

Now, if your kid is the “outdoors” type who runs around day and night with his friends – You can probably ignore this 😉  But if your child is more of the “indoors” type who doesn’t exercise all that much, this is very relevant.

On days where they don’t have martial arts, it’ll really help them keep up their fitness & health. All you need is a timer, and a bit of room.

  • Pushups for 30 seconds
  • Crunches for 30 seconds
  • Squats for 30 seconds

Time your child for each exercise, with a 10-15 seconds rest in between and run them through this workout 2-3 times.
